Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is one of musical theatre’s biggest hits. Originally written in 1968 by a very young Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice as a 20 minute school play, it’s now been performed by the Secondary section of the European School.

Following hot on the heels of Philip Schofield, Jason Donovan, Donny Osmond and Lee Mead (as well as several other excellent Josephs who have brought their dreamcoats to theatres over the years), it should have been a hard act to follow, yet Alfie Rushton and the cast and crew of this years performance made it look easy.

With a cast of over 60 pupils, a 15 or so band, and a production team that would rival that of professional theatre, the performances went off without a hitch, and cast and audience alike loved the whole thing.
Choreography by Lizie Giraudeau was spectacular, Musical arrangement by John Marsh was thoroughly professional, and the Drama Direction by Martin Steen-Tolle was beyond reproach.

Notable mentions must go to Lara Iannelli and Katherine Sladden who sang the narration segments wonderfully, and to the 11 brothers who kept the flow and amusement value on top form (Bruno Schillinger has a hip wiggle to rival the best of them!).
The Chorus and Dance troupes were thoroughly professional despite their varied age ranges, and it was hard to find fault in any of their songs or dances, and it's this reviewers opinion that many of them could go on to professional theatre without too much effort.

All in all - a performance to remember, and the cast and crew should feel immensely proud of their achievements - I can only image the 'low' the troupe must be feeling now it's all over, after being on such a 'high'. Well done, one and all - we look forward to the next performance.
